Bridging the digital skills gap for African startups while combating youth unemployment
A program in partnership with the consortium led by the African Technology Innovation Hubs Initiative (AfriLabs) that combats both youth unemployment in Africa and the digital skills gap in African startups which is essential for their growth and scale.
The program recruits at least 60% of participants to be women in addressing the gender disparity in the tech sector.
The Challenge
African startups face a challenge in quality staffing while scaling up in Africa. Despite the huge potential of the human capital, there is a need for key competencies and skills in many sectors amongst which the digital economy. Training in digital and tech skills and support for startups is a priority for Digital Africa.
Our Solution
The program provides direct support for 200 young people from 5 African countries by financing scholarships and placement activities to train them for the jobs and skills. In a 6 month period, unemployed youth are trained in digital analytics, software development and digital skills and thereafter matched with a local startup towards sustainable employment.

Month 1-4: Skills Training
Intensive training in digital analytics, software development, and essential digital skills
Month 5: Startup Matching
Participants are matched with local startups based on skills and company needs
Month 6: Placement & Transition
Participants begin working with startups with continued support from the program
